John Katz, MPA '94

John Katz (MPA '94) was recently promoted to lead the Zero Waste Office at US EPA Region 9 in San Francisco.

John and his staff provide grants, technical assistance, and national policy leadership on pollution prevention, circular economy, green building, and sustainable materials management. They work with partners in the Region 9 states (CA, HI, NV, AZ), territories (Guam, American Samoa, and Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands), and more than 140 federally-recognized tribes. 

Prior to his promotion, John worked in the office as a Pollution Prevention Coordinator, focusing on reducing toxics in products, promoting environmentally preferable purchasing, and setting international standards for green products and services. He also has done stints in EPA's Water program, Tribal program, and Climate Protection office. He came to EPA after getting his MPA from the Humphrey Institute with a focus on Technology, Energy and Environmental policy.
