Kathy Quick Reflects on Policing and Public Safety in New Essay
June 28, 2022

In a new essay published in Planning Theory and Practice, Associate Professor Kathy Quick reflects on her experiences in three extended series of multi-stakeholder dialogues about policing and public safety.

Her essay, “Just Talk: The Promise and Peril of Dialogues about Whiteness,” explores whether “just talking” can deliver on hopes to advance justice without falling into "mere talk" without action. Quick concludes that these experiences have led her to a messy mix of cynicism and a continuing, restless desire to make deliberation better.
