Humphrey School Ranks No. 10 in New Survey of Public Affairs Graduate Programs

The Humphrey School of Public Affairs continues to be recognized as one of the top graduate schools for public affairs in the nation.

According to the latest annual survey of graduate and professional schools by US News & World Report, the Humphrey School is ranked 10th out of 269 schools rated nationally. 

The results, released today in the magazine’s Best Graduate Schools 2023 issue, place the Humphrey School program overall in the top 3 percent of all master’s degree programs in public affairs at U.S. institutions.

"Our top 10 ranking by US News & World Report is confirmation of the Humphrey School’s value as a premier public affairs and public policy institution through our research, outreach, and education,” Dean Nisha Botchwey said. “Our renowned faculty are at the forefront of public policy research, and our thousands of influential alumni are working in government, the private sector, nonprofits, and academia around the world. As a community we are fulfilling our mission to educate, engage, and equip leaders and communities to discover solutions that advance the common good in our diverse world.”

US News & World Report also released rankings for specialty programs offered by public affairs schools. This year, several Humphrey School programs are ranked highly.  

  • Nonprofit management, No. 7
  • Social policy, No. 8
  • Urban policy, No. 25
  • Public policy analysis, No. 26
  • Leadership, No. 31

The US News & World Report rankings are based on a survey of deans, directors, and department chairs representing 269 master’s degree programs in public affairs and administration at colleges and universities across the country. Two surveys were sent to each school.
