The Center for Security Studies at George Mason University's Schar School of Policy and Government and the Humphrey School of Public Affairs are pleased to present a discussion of Raymond Kuo's monograph Contests of Initiative: Countering China's Gray Zone Strategy in the East and South China Seas. Dr. Kuo explores the dynamics of competition in the East and South China Seas between an increasingly ambitious China against the prevailing role of the United States as the region's security provider. Professor Michael Hunzeker of the Schar School and Humphrey School Diplomat-in-Residence Mary Curtin will provide comments. CSPS director Ellen Laipson will moderate the discussion.
