The Swain Climate Policy Series is geared to mobilize civic engagement in relation to climate change on an ongoing basis. This summer, we are inviting neighbors of all ages to join the Humphrey School and Minnesota Center for Book Arts to host hands-on art projects and activities that have lasting impact for the climate.
We are excited to feature local artists to host fun activities:
Paper Plains (Anna Haglin & James Kleiner) - Create paper from invasive plants and embedded with native seeds
Bike Press (Monica Edwards Larson) - Experience the “power of the press” and make a bike spoke card with a vintage clamshell letterpress that is mounted on a bike
Screen Print (Michelle Lee Lagerroos and Kirsten Olson) - Screen print your own reusable tote bag to call attention to the climate crisis
Join the League of Women Voters (Minneapolis Chapter) to write your legislators to make your voice - and thoughts on climate change - heard! The League of Women Voters will also be helping with voter registration and providing voting information.
Take an Introduction to Forest Bathing session with Kristen Mastel at 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Peruse local artisan Breezy Callen’s homemade jewelry made from recycled materials
Food:
Chef Shack Food Truck will be on site serving locally sourced and home made foods. Stop by for delicious, sustainable fares!
Sonny’s Ice Cream Cafe will be serving their small batch ice cream and sorbets; enjoy a scoop!
Help us celebrate local climate change activist Tom Swain’s 101st birthday with free cupcakes from Nomemade Bakery, a local gluten free bakery.
