Spring Visit Days - Update in Response to COVID-19

In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Humphrey School will be canceling our onsite Spring Visit Days on Monday, March 30 and Saturday, April 11. We are very disappointed that we will not be able to host you in person as Spring Visit Days provide space to further explore the many opportunities and benefits of a degree from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. 

Connecting with our applicants is very much a top priority. To that end, virtual events are available in both March and April. Please visit the links below to view scheduled dates and to register. Connection details will be sent prior to each event.

Virtual Spring Visit Day

The day's events will feature staff, faculty, students, and alumni of the Humphrey School. There will be program-specific breakout sessions where you will be able to learn how your program that admitted you can help you impact the world.

Costs and Financing

We understand that a graduate school education is a significant investment. To assist students with their planning, the Humphrey School provides an overview of resources available through the Humphrey School, the University of Minnesota, and federal programs. Financial offers for those considered for merit-based aid will go out by March 15.

Enrollment Deadline

While the University of Minnesota continues to closely monitor the developing situation regarding COVID-19, our enrollment process for the fall 2020 semester is proceeding normally.

Dean Laura Bloomberg and the Admissions Team will keep you informed of any changes over the coming months.

This means that our enrollment deadline remains the same: Wednesday, April 15, 2020.

Please indicate your enrollment decision by April 15. You can do so by following the link to the Enrollment Form found within your online application account.

Requesting a Deferral of Your Admission

Our expectation is that students apply with the intention of enrolling in the fall semester. The University continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation and remains open. Plans for fall semester are proceeding as they normally would.

We recognize our admitted students are dealing with dynamic situations, and we intend to work with each of you on an individual basis to determine deferral requests.

Admitted applicants may request a one-year deferral of their admission. Requests for deferrals are considered on a case-by-case basis. Deferral requests must be submitted using the online deferral form. If a one-year deferral is granted, the student must: 

  • Complete the online Enrollment Form by indicating "Yes"
  • Plan to resubmit an updated personal statement and resume directly to the Director of Admissions by merit-based aid consideration deadlines (either December 15 or January 15) in order to be considered for aid in the following year, and by April 1, for all other applicants.

Deferred applicants will receive a request to submit their updated materials during the next fall application season.

Before you can register and activate your admission to the University of Minnesota, you will be required to complete a series of online activities. Former students of the University of Minnesota will also be required to complete these online activities before registering.
