Conference Center Rental

An event taking place in the Humphrey School Atrium

The Humphrey School offers unique meeting and event spaces for University of Minnesota departments and colleges as well as the wider community. From our tiered Cowles Auditorium, to the sky-lit Joan and Walter Mondale Commons, and our numerous flexible conference rooms, the Conference Center can accommodate groups and gatherings of many sizes. The Conference Center is handicapped accessible.

Cowles Auditorium

The John and Elizabeth Bates Cowles Auditorium, carpeted with tiered theater-style seating, accommodates up to 250 in an intimate setting. The back wall of the stage doubles as a projection screen. Studio lighting, three-camera video recording (MP4 format), video conferencing, and live streaming of your event are among the audiovisual capabilities and equipment available at an additional charge. An in-house AV technician is required when using the Cowles Auditorium.

Mondale Commons

Humphrey School Atrium

The Joan and Walter Mondale Commons is included with rental of the Cowles Auditorium. A large three-story, sky-lit space, the Mondale Commons is ideal for luncheons, receptions, meetings, and dinners. Clients may select their own caterer.

Humphrey Forum

Humphrey Forum

With large museum displays on every wall, the Humphrey Forum chronicles the life and career of Hubert H. Humphrey. The  Forum is ideal for roundtable discussions, small lectures, luncheons, and receptions. The large open space allows for a variety of furniture configurations ranging from a classic lecture to an intimate dinner reception. The room is equipped with two 85” monitors, speakers, podium, wired microphone, and a computer connection for video or other presentations. Refreshments may be served in this room.

Josie Johnson Community Room

With 60 chairs and 20 tables, the Dr. Josie Robinson Johnson Community Room for Social Justice is ideal for seminars and lectures and can accommodate a variety of table/chair configurations. This spacious room is equipped with two 90-inch monitors, a confidence monitor, movable podium with microphone, overhead microphones, speakers, and cameras for video conferencing. Refreshments may be served in this room.

Wilkins Room 215

Wilkins Room (215) Square Configuration

Wilkins Room is a sunlit and spacious area for seminars, retreats, and meetings. The walls are decorated with photographs from the career of Roy Wilkins, civil rights leader and NAACP executive secretary from 1955 to 1977. Tables and chairs can be arranged in boardroom syle, classroom style, conference square, or in pods. The Wilkins room is equipped with an LCD projector, screen, whiteboard, overhead microphones, speakers, and cameras for video conferencing. Refreshments may be served in this room.

Stassen Room 170

Room 170

This room overlooks the Mondale Commons and contains artifacts from the long political career of former Minnesota Governor Harold Stassen. Tables and chairs can be arranged boardroom style, classroom style, or in a conference square. The Stassen Room is equipped with a projector, screen, and whiteboard. Refreshments may be served in this room.

Please note that the Stassen Room is only available Monday–Friday during Humphrey School front desk hours.
