Join the Center on Women, Gender and Public Policy and the Human Rights Program for an important conversation about the future of transgender rights, featuring advocate, author, and ACLU Communications Strategist, Gillian Branstetter.

Across the country, transgender rights are under assault. Thousands of anti-LGBTQ bills have been introduced in state legislatures, with more than half of US states banning minors access to gender-affirming care or limiting trans students’ participation in school athletics. At the federal level, policies protecting trans people’s rights to healthcare, employment, and other vital services have been rescinded. Political rhetoric dehumanizing LGBTQ+ communities or dismissing trans rights has become commonplace.

Learn about the coordinated campaigns targeting LGBTQ+ communities, and how advocates and allies can support the fight for transgender rights from Gillian Branstetter, Communications Strategist at the ACLU’s LGBTQ & HIV Rights Project. Formerly of the National Women’s Law Center and the National Center for Transgender Equality, Branstetter works with advocates, storytellers, reporters, and artists to fight for gender equality, including the safety and dignity of queer and transgender people. An experienced spokesperson and media strategist, Branstetter has been featured in national and local media outlets including CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, Washington Post, and The Ezra Klein Show. Her writing and reporting have also appeared in The Atlantic, The Nation, Newsweek, Out Magazine, and Thomson-Reuters.

Join us for this critical conversation about where transgender rights go from here - and what we can do to shape the future we want.
