The Certificate in Sustainable Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Leadership is a 12-credit, in-person graduate program designed to prepare professionals to advance sustainability and responsible governance across sectors.

This interdisciplinary program is offered in collaboration with the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, the Carlson School of Management (Minnesota Carlson), and the Institute on the Environment (IonE).

Please note: While the program is featured on the Humphrey School website, all applications and admissions processes are administered through Minnesota Carlson. Prospective students should apply directly through the Carlson School.

About the Program

Organizations across the globe are working to meet the “triple bottom line” of people, planet, and profit. The Sustainable ESG Certificate provides the policy, science, and management tools needed to support these goals. 

Across two semesters, you will explore topics such as: 

  • Corporate sustainability strategy
  • Environmental justice and public policy
  • Greenhouse gas emissions measurement
  • Climate data evaluation
  • Ethical business practices
  • Responsible supply chain management 

Courses incorporate hands-on experiences from all three collaborating units, preparing you to design and implement ESG improvements in diverse professional settings.

Credits earned in this certificate may be applied toward the Carlson School’s Part-Time MBA or Online MBA programs.
