Biography
Dr. Shahrin Upoma is an Assistant Professor in the Leadership and Management area at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. Her research examines leadership, organizational behavior, and decision-making in public and nonprofit management, with a particular focus on how identity and lived experience influence leadership styles, team dynamics, and workplace culture in mission-driven organizations.
Dr. Upoma brings a unique perspective to her work, offering insight into how personal and professional identities intersect to shape leadership practice and organizational life. Her scholarship explores the role of gender, culture, and institutional context in shaping organizational outcomes and employee experiences across sectors.
Using rigorous mixed methods, Dr. Upoma bridges the gap between research and practice—equipping students with applied knowledge and providing actionable insights for professionals, leaders, and practitioners in the field. She holds a Ph.D. in Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Dallas.
