The Wilkins Center undertakes research to guide and empower policymakers and community leaders to develop and promote solutions to the problems of racism and racial and ethnic inequality.

Who Was Roy Wilkins?

The Roy Wilkins Center for Human Relations and Social Justice was founded in 1992 as a joint effort of the University of Minnesota and the Roy Wilkins Foundation to carry on the legacy of Roy Wilkins, former chief executive of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). It is the only endowed center and chair in Wilkins' memory in the United States.

The Roy Wilkins Center is developing a model to bring together a broad range of expertise to produce cutting-edge research, influence public policy, and implement viable programs. The model includes four major components.

Events & Conferences

The Roy Wilkins Center for Human Relations and Social Justice, as a part of an effort to infuse dialogue, outreach and education within our community, nation, and world, has and will continue to proudly host many conferences and special events.

National Economic Association (NEA) Awards Dr. Myers with The Samuel Westerfield Award in Boston, Massachusetts

On January 4th, Dr. Samuel Myers Jr. received, NEA's highest honor, the Samuel Westerfield Award. His dedication, devotion, and performance led him to earn this honor. Faculty, Family, and friends gathered at this luncheon to celebrate his accomplishments.
