Associate Professor Kathy Quick has been awarded the prestigious Gross Family Chair at the Humphrey School, which supports the School’s program in nonprofit leadership, philanthropy, and public affairs.

Professor Samuel Myers Jr. has been named the inaugural Rebecca Blank Fellow by the American Academy of Political and Social Sciences (AAPSS). The AAPSS recognizes the contributions he has made to the advancement of social science and to public understanding of the human condition.

Professor Peter Calow co-authored a new report for the Minnesota Department of Health to help the agency develop a 10-year strategy to ensure a safe, equitable, and reliable drinking water supply for state residents.

Professor Tricia Olsen authored a new book and two articles examining corporate social responsibility in Latin America.

Assistant Professor Fayola Jacobs contributed to the new National Climate Assessment report, released last week, which concludes that the effects of human-caused climate change are far-reaching and worsening across every region of the United States. Jacobs co-authored the chapter on Social Systems and Justice.

A new paper by Professor Ragui Assaad, "School-to-Work Transitions for Egypt's Youth," published in Open Access Government, examines the structural reforms in Egypt that have made the school-to-work transition for Egyptian youth more difficult and less equal.

A research team led by Associate Professor Yuan (Daniel) Cheng has published a new report, "Understanding the Use of Evidence-based Practices by State Leaders and Staff," which examines how state leaders and staff understand different types of evidence and systematic barriers they encounter when attempting to enhance the use of scientific evidence.

Professor Samuel Myers Jr. has been awarded a two-year, $417,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study racial disparities in drowning deaths. While conventional explanations for these disparities focus on individual behaviors and characteristics,  Myers and the project team hypothesize that structural factors such as systemic racial discrimination play outsized roles in explaining the racial disparities.

Associate Professor Audrey Dorélien is a member of the University of Minnesota’s research team that was awarded $17.5 million from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help establish an outbreak response network during public health emergencies.

Doctoral candidate Shuyi Deng has received the 2022 ARNOVA Best Conference Paper Award for "The Cost of Color? Race-conscious Mission Statements and Nonprofit Funding," which examines the topic of racial disparities in the nonprofit sector.
