The Humphrey School of Public Affairs continues to be recognized as one of the top 10 graduate schools for public affairs in the nation. According to the latest annual survey of graduate and professional schools by US News & World Report, the Humphrey School is ranked 9th out of 275 schools rated nationally. Last year the School was ranked 10th.
The results, released today in the magazine’s Best Graduate Schools 2022 issue, place the Humphrey School program overall in the top 3.3 percent of all master’s degree programs in public affairs at U.S. institutions.
"Today's announcement of the US News & World Report rankings acknowledges the reach and impact of our dedicated academic community," Dean Laura Bloomberg said. "The Humphrey School is home to nationally renowned faculty at the forefront of public policy research. Our alumni hold leadership positions in business, government, and nonprofit organizations around the globe. Together we are dedicated to living our mission of advancing the common good, and I am gratified to see the work of this impressive learning community recognized in this manner."
Bloomberg said she’s especially proud of the School’s ability to respond quickly to the pandemic over the past year. Faculty members pivoted their teaching and research toward understanding the trajectory of the pandemic and its impact on people in such areas as housing, employment inequities, and transportation policy. In the aftermath of George Floyd’s death, research by Professor Samuel Myers Jr. into racial disparities in Minnesota gained new attention.
“We have been tested this past year and we have learned hard lessons about living our values,” Bloomberg said. “We have a sturdy foundation and an enormously talented community of partners, scholars, students, and alumni that keep us at the leading edge of public affairs education.”
The US News & World Report rankings are based on a survey of deans, directors, and department chairs representing the 275 master’s degree programs in public affairs and administration at colleges and universities across the country. Two surveys were sent to each school.
