Sex Trafficking and Community Wellbeing

A new podcast from Civios highlights research by Lauren Martin

January 31, 2018—As Minnesota prepares to host the big game this week, there's increased attention around sex trafficking—and suggestions that the biggest game of the year is connected to a spike in such crimes.

In a new podcast for Civios, Lauren Martin, director of research at the Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center (UROC) and affiliate faculty member of the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, addresses sex trafficking and commercial sex, defining their differences and dispelling myths. When it comes to mega sporting events, Martin notes that "it's not that there's no impact, it's that the impact is akin to any large event."
