Humphrey Student’s Public Art Project Draws National Spotlight

Jonathan Oppenheimer says project rallies resident around common cause

Brightly colored murals along Snelling Avenue in Saint Paul, a brainchild of Humphrey School of Public Affairs student Jonathan Oppenheimer, can now be seen way beyond the neighborhood they’re intended to beautify. The Big Ten Network selected Oppenheimer’s Midway Murals project as part of its online video series to showcase good work being done by students enrolled at Big Ten schools.

The video highlights Oppenheimer’s motivation for the community project, which was to beautify his neighborhood and strengthen the community by engaging residents, business owners, and artists in a collaborative public art project. Oppenheimer is enrolled in a dual Master of Public Policy and Master of Social Work degree program at the Humphrey School and School of Social Work.
