Conference Registration Information:
Your registration fee includes all breakfasts, lunches, and receptions during the conference. Thursday dinner is optional at an additional cost ($30).
- $200 for academics and practitioners
- $75 for students or single-day registration

- Registration fee is fully refundable if canceled on or before April 10, 2020.
- 50% refund available from April 11 through May 10, 2020
- No refunds available after 11:59 p.m. (CST) on May 10, 2020.

For 19 years, the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) has annually partnered with a host organization to present the Social Equity Leadership Conference (SELC) focused on advancing social equity, defined by NAPA as: a key pillar of public administration alongside economy, efficiency, and effectiveness. Social equity addresses fairness, justice, and equity within a variety of public contexts (NAPA 2019).
Acknowledging the persistent and unacceptable disparities that continue to challenge policymakers and policy leaders, the 2020 SELC conference theme, Advancing Social Equity: Implementing and Measuring Change in the Public Arena, focuses on specific strategies and initiatives that are advancing social equity, and the evaluation or research strategies that are helping us to understand which initiatives are working—and why.
We invite individual abstract and/or full panel submissions to the 2020 Social Equity Leadership Conference at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota. Individual proposals must be submitted by Friday, February 7; full panel proposals must be submitted by Friday, February 21.
Proposals should fall under one of the three conference subthemes:
Subtheme 1: Measuring and Understanding the Impact of Social Equity Initiatives
As agencies and organizations grapple with promoting social equity, this subtheme seeks proposals that address research and evaluation strategies deployed to understand changes in policy or practice. Of particular interest are inclusive and mixed-method approaches that themselves exemplify an equitable approach to problem identification, analysis, and evaluation.
Subtheme 2: Cross-Sectoral Approaches and Intersectional Partnerships
With the belief that no single agency or sector can solve the grand challenges that we face today, this subtheme focuses on the nexus of innovations across public, private, and/or nonprofit sectors that address disparities using a lens of fairness, justice, and equity.
Subtheme 3: Social Equity as a Global Grand Challenge
In countries around the world, innovative strategies and initiatives are being launched to address social inequities that undermine the ability for people to thrive in a changing global environment. This subtheme seeks submissions of fully formed panels or individual proposals that explore innovations in countries across the globe to address social equity as they relate to one or more of the grand challenges identified by NAPA.
We seek conference participation from academics, students, advocates, community organizers, public sector administrators, tribal administrators, nonprofit leaders, and policymakers. We particularly encourage evaluation-oriented and praxis-oriented proposals centered on better understanding innovations that address persistent economic, education, employment, health, housing, environmental, criminal justice, technology, transportation and other opportunity gaps across the United States and globally.
There are a number of sponsorship opportunities available for organizations and schools looking to advertise during the 2020 Social Equity Leadership Conference.

The Humphrey School is easily accessed by MetroTransit bus and light rail service. The West Bank station on the Green Line is closest to the School and located on 19th Avenue; after exiting to street level, proceed south to the School. The Cedar Riverside station on the Blue Line is only a few blocks away from the School. Both bus routes 2 and 7 serve the stop at 19th Avenue South and Riverside Avenue, approximately one block from the Humphrey School. Visit the MetroTransit website to find other routes that serve the area.

SELC 2020 is making a conscious effort to reduce the environmental impact of conference hosting, communications, sponsorship offerings, transportation, and conference catering. To that end we commit to the following 10-point plan:
1. Minneapolis is a very pedestrian-friendly city and we encourage walking! The conference hotel is a short 10-minute walk from the Humphrey School, which will be the site of all conference sessions. For those with mobility limitations, the hotel provides a group shuttle.
2. We will provide conference attendees information on carpooling or public transportation for other activities during their time in Minneapolis.
3. We will use a conference app to help minimize print materials as much as possible. A limited number of conference programs will be printed.
4. Where feasible, we will further reduce the use of paper and printing connected to the conference by presenting sponsor information through the app and via rolling projection screens at the conference.
5. Any printed materials will be printed back-to-back on 100% recycled paper.
6. Name badges will be reusable.
7. Reusable water bottles and water stations will be available; we will not be providing bottled water.
8. Journals for notetaking will be provided to each conference attendee. We will not be providing any additional materials (e.g., conference bag, etc).
9. Recycling stations will be available throughout the conference facility.
10. All catering will be served using either compostable or non-disposable serving dishes and cutlery. We will have plenty of vegetarian options, and our experienced event planning team will reduce food waste by carefully estimating the volume of food required based on the number of attendees, event type, and timing of activities and breaks.
