Maike Herta Hamann
Maike is a postdoctoral researcher at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, focusing on the assessment of benefits provided by urban ecosystems. She is particularly interested in developing tools that bring the many different values of urban green spaces and ecological infrastructure to the fore in decision-making processes. To address this challenge, Maike applies a social ecological systems approach to understanding the complex interactions between different actors and stakeholders in the urban context.
Before joining the University of Minnesota, Maike completed a PhD in Sustainability Science at the Stockholm Resilience Centre in Sweden, and then worked at the Centre for Complex Systems in Transition in South Africa. There, she explored imaginative scenario planning processes as a way to create transformative spaces that encourage social-ecological transitions towards more sustainable future pathways for people and planet.
