John Gunyou has a distinguished 50-year career with state and local governments, nonprofits, and private companies throughout the country. After retiring as Minnetonka’s city manager in 2011, he was elected Three Rivers Regional Park Board chair, where he continues to serve.
John was previously Minnesota’s finance commissioner in Governor Arne Carlson’s administration, and was the first finance director for the City of Minneapolis. He was a partner with the largest economic consulting firm in the Rocky Mountains, where he was responsible for more than 200 sponsored research projects. He ran Minnesota’s original and largest Internet company, was an executive with Minnesota Public Radio and was chief economist for the Denver Regional Council of Governments.
John has taught finance, economics, and policy analysis at several universities, including the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School since 2009. He has degrees in finance and economics from the U.S. Air Force Academy, University of California (UCLA) and University of Colorado.
