The Affordable Care Act, which was passed during the presidency of Barack Obama, has faced near termination on several occasions and yet it lives to the benefit of more than 32 million Americans.

That finding is central to a new book by Lawrence R. Jacobs, a professor at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. "Against All Odds: How Health Reform Endures," co-authored with Ling Zhu of the University of Houston and Suzanne Mettler of Cornell University, explores how the Affordable Care Act (ACA) survived fierce political opposition and, over time, gained acceptance among Americans who initially opposed it.

President Biden’s national security advisor, Jake Sullivan, was involved in setting policy and strategies to deal with some of the world’s most pressing issues, including the global pandemic, the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, and relations with China. Sullivan reflected on the Biden administration’s foreign policies and the future of America on the world stage in an event at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs on June 5.
