Tom Swain’s Legacy and Upcoming Lecture Series
On his 100th birthday on July 4, 2021, Tom Swain announced he was fundraising for a new initiative at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, in partnership with the Institute on the Environment (IonE): a campaign to find solutions to the climate crisis. His vision is to encourage University of Minnesota students, faculty, and staff, as well as citizens throughout the state, to support policies and actions that bring change and hope to the current climate change trajectory.
October 26, 2021 from 6 to 7 p.m. is the kickoff to our series of events: a conversation with former vice president and climate activist Al Gore. IonE’s executive director, Jessica Hellmann, will host a virtual Q&A session with Gore, showcasing climate questions from U of M students—systemwide.
Climate activities: Oct. 26–29 and throughout the year
The Humphrey School’s Center for Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy (C-STEP) is partnering with IonE to bring a week full of climate-focused events throughout campus and with community businesses and organizations.
Consider hosting a presentation within your organization focused on this topic, or try other activities like climate cooking classes, sustainability tours, bike rides, movie screenings—and more!
Add your climate solution activity to our overall campaign. We’ll feature it on our event page and promote it on social media. Let’s create a University-wide effort to address and educate ourselves about climate change and take action!
