REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE MPA, MPP, MS, AND MURP DEGREES

You may register for fall 2008 classes once you have been formally admitted by the Graduate School and have fulfilled any requirements (such as submission of an undergraduate transcript and immunization clearance). If you are not familiar with the University registration system, please access the registration tutorial prior to your first registration, as it will answer many of your questions. There are sample registrations for each degree program on the Orientation web page.

Class information for fall 2008 semester is available through the University's website.

  • Choose FALL 2008 under Term and PUBLIC AFFAIRS under Subject and select View.
  • You will need to enter the class number for each course when you register. This is the five-digit number to the left of
the course entry in the class schedule.
  • Grading options are A/F or S/N (Satisfactory/Not Satisfactory). Required courses for your degree and your concentration or specialization must be taken on an A/F basis.
  • The registration system should tell you that your college is the Graduate School and your academic career is Graduate.
If it doesn't say this, do not register. Contact the Graduate Programs Office at 612-624-3800 immediately.
  • You may have a hold on your record that prevents you from registering. The hold information should indicate whom you must contact to remove the hold.
  • You will be asked for health insurance information. If your circumstances change (i.e., you obtain a graduate assistantship), you will be able to change this information later.
  • Where a class has both a lecture and a lab, you will register for the lab and be automatically enrolled into the corresponding lecture section. (For example, registering for PA 5031, lab section 2 automatically enrolls you into PA 5031, lecture section 1.)
  • Some courses have specific prerequisites. If you wish to enroll in a class for which you do not meet the prerequisite, you will need to contact the course instructor to request a class permission number.
  • As classes may be reassigned to different classrooms over the summer, please consult the class schedule  as the beginning of the semester nears. Changes to classes will appear here.
  • If your degree is MPP, MS, or MURP, please register before meeting with your adviser at Orientation. It is easy to add and drop classes, and you will avoid late registration fees by registering before the term begins.
  • Use the sample registrations as a reference for your fall 2008 registration.
