REGISTRATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute. We are looking forward to seeing you in August and are sending some information to assist you.

International students cannot register for classes until after they arrive at the University and check in with the International Student and Scholar Services office. We will try to save seats for you in courses so that you will be able register when you arrive. (We can't provide a 100% guarantee, but we will do our best.) If you request a class that is closed, we will put you on a waiting list. Our suggestion is that you choose classes that are currently open.

Please e-mail Ms. Stacey Grimes [grime004@umn.edu] a list of the classes in which you wish to be enrolled in for fall 2008. Public Affairs classes are available at this website.

To help you in choosing your classes, some resources are available to you:

  1. The Orientation web page
  2. Sample registrations
  3. Degree requirements:
    • MPA (Master of Public Affairs)
    • MPP (Master of Public Policy)
    • MS (Master of Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy)
    • MURP (Master of Urban and Regional Policy)

Send the:

  • Course Number (example: PA 1490)
  • Course Name (example: Topics in Social Policy: America's Constitutional Crisis)
  • 5-digit class number (example: 54563)

If the grade basis (A/F for grade or S/N for Satisfactory or Not Satisfactory) can be chosen, indicate your preference. If the number of credits can be chosen, specify that also. International graduate students must take a minimum of SIX credits per semester.

You should try to arrive no later than August 15 in order to complete all the necessary paperwork, registration, and find your housing. Earlier is even better.

The International Student and Scholar Services Office has a Checklist for International Students.  (Note that tuition bills are sent electronically.)

In the near future, we will be sending you information about an opportunity for you to have a cultural host or host family. We will also be sending out a more general message about our Humphrey Institute Orientation, which will be held on Monday, August 25, and adviser appointments and computer orientation, to be held on either Tuesday, August 26 or Wednesday, August 27 .

Again, please accept our congratulations on your acceptance here. We are looking forward to seeing you. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you.
