The University of Minnesota uses two grading systems: A-B-C-D-F and S-N. At least two-thirds of the coursework on a student's official degree program must be taken under the A-F system. All core courses and all required courses in a concentration must be taken A-F, except for capstone workshops, working groups, and independent study (PA 8991) taken for the purpose of a professional paper. Many courses are offered only under A-F grading. Students select the grading system option when they register. Any changes in grading option must be made as an official registration change no later than the second week of classes.
Verify both your original registration and any subsequent changes by reviewing your registration online every semester. Particularly note the selected grade base for each course (A-F or S-N).
