The Humphrey Institute's Commencement Ceremony will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 18  at the Ted Mann Concert Hall. Additional information is available on the University's commencement page.

President Bruininks and his wife, Susan Hagstrum are holding two graduation receptions at the president’s  residence Eastcliff, on May 18  (12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.). All Humphrey master’s candidates are invited. Send an e-mail to urelate@umn.edu or call 612-624-6868 by May 15 to indicate your interest in attending.    

Before the ceremony

  • Commencement Attendance Form: Students who have graduated or plan to graduate between 9/30/2007 and 8/31/2008 MUST submit the Humphrey Institute Commencement Attendance Form by April 25. Please submit the form whether you are planning to attend the ceremony or not.
  • Graduation Garb: Order your cap, gown, and master's hood from the U of M Bookstore (612-625-6000)--each piece is required for the Humphrey ceremony. (You may also order online from the Bookstore for a $10.00 fee.)
  • Faculty should order their academic regalia from the Bookstore (or by calling 612-625-6000). Faculty regalia order deadline: Monday, April 4, 2008.
  • Order announcements through the Bookstore.
    • If you choose to customize your announcements, use this example.
  • Submit your student ballot for student and faculty awards. Ballots will be placed in student mailboxes the week of March 26 and due by April 7.
  • Disability accommodations: For disability accommodations for you or your guests at the ceremony, please contact Camille Gage at 612-625-5309 or cgage@umn.edu.

Day of the ceremony

  • Student check-in: Students MUST report to the Ted Mann Concert Hall by 1 p.m. in their academic costumes.
    • Optional class picture will be taken from 1 to 1:15 p.m.
    • Students will begin lining up at 1:15.
  • Faculty check-in: Faculty should report to the dressing rooms in Ted Mann Concert Hall by 1 p.m. and begin lining up at 1:30.
  • Length of ceremony: The ceremony will last approximately two hours and a reception with light refreshments will immediately follow in the patio between the Ted Mann Concert Hall and Ferguson Hall.

After the ceremony

  • Return your hood to the U of M Bookstores by Wednesday, May 21 or you will be charged for it.
  • Make sure to complete your paperwork, so that you really do graduate.
