Biography

The Honorable William Howard was appointed to the Hennepin County District Court in 1990. He was elected to the bench in 1992 and re-elected in 1998, 2004, and 2010. His service on the bench includes roles as presiding judge of family court and drug court and as coordinating judge of the community court pilot project.

Prior to being appointed to the Hennepin County District Court, Howard served for almost 20 years with the Minnesota Attorney General's Office as an Assistant Attorney General in the areas of labor law and worker's compensation and as Special Assistant Attorney General for the Minnesota Department of Commerce and Minnesota Department of of Labor and Industry. He also was Assistant Commissioner of Insurance for the Minnesota Department of Commerce.

The nephew of Hubert H. Humphrey, Howard studied at the American University in Washington, D.C., and earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science and a law degree from the University of Minnesota.
