Steve Rothschild is the founder and chairman of the board of Twin Cities RISE! (TCR!), an organization that provides employers with skilled workers, primarily men from communities of color in the Twin Cities area, by training under- and unemployed adults for skilled jobs that pay a living wage.
Formerly, Rothschild was CEO of TCR! during its first nine years. He also served as executive vice president of General Mills, Inc., where his responsibilities included International food operations, various domestic divisions, and new business activities of the company. Earlier in his career at General Mills, he started Yoplait in the United States, a yogurt company, and was its first president.
Rothschild is a member of the dean's advisory council for the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, a director for Minnesota Public Radio, and chair of the Community Impact Committee of the Greater Twin Cities United Way. His other volunteer service includes posts with the Citizens League, the College of Saint Benedict, the Bridge for Runaway Youth, the Minnesota Opera, and the Minneapolis Society of Fine Arts. He was founding chairman of Altcare, a joint venture between the Wilder Foundation and General Mills to stimulate innovation in elder care issues. The project won the Harvard University George S. Dively award for corporate public initiatives and a President’s Citation for private sector initiatives from President Reagan.
Rothschild earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Franklin and Marshall College and a master of business and administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
