Charlie Weaver is the executive director of the Minnesota Business Partnership, a nonprofit, non-partisan public policy organization composed of 100 chief executive officers representing Minnesota’s leading employers.
Prior to joining the Business Partnership in 2003, Weaver served as chief of staff for Governor Tim Pawlenty during his first year in office. In this capacity, Weaver helped assemble the Pawlenty administration, craft a state budget, and coordinate the legislative strategy to implement the governor’s agenda.
As former commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Weaver led a diverse department of 1,900 employees and managed an annual department budget of more than $254 million. The agency includes the Minnesota State Patrol, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Driver and Vehicle Services, and the Division of Emergency Management. Weaver also spearheaded Minnesota’s efforts to prevent and respond to a terrorist attack.
Weaver's public service career started with his election in 1988 to the Minnesota House of Representatives, where he served until 1998 as Assistant Minority Leader. He also was the law firm of Lindquist and Vennum. His many community activities include serving on the advisory boards of PACER and the Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
Weaver earned a degree in political science from the University of Oregon and a law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School.
