Biography

Caren Dewar is the executive director of the Urban Land Institute Minnesota (ULI MN). ULI MN actively engages public and private sector leaders in land use planning and real estate development to learn, network and join in meaningful, strategic action focused on sustainability, infrastructure/transportation, housing and job growth. Dewar is the founder of ULI MN’s Regional Council of Mayors, a non-partisan platform that builds awareness and action for a more connected, more sustainable and more prosperous region.

Dewar previously served as president of Dewar & Associates, Inc., where she provided leadership and planning direction for a variety of complex local and regional initiatives. She has led many multi-disciplinary teams in support of public– private partnerships, bridging diverse stakeholders in pursuit of innovative development and redevelopment, integrating land use, transportation, and the environment.

As deputy regional administrator with the Metropolitan Council, Dewar served as a key member of the chair’s executive management team, setting policy and coordinating legislative activity. She also previously served on the Metropolitan Council representing District 6, where she chaired the Livable Communities Committee and the Housing and Land Use Advisory Committee and served on the Transportation Committee and Rail Transit Committee.
