Background

Schwartz was named dean of the School in June, coming from a post as assistant secretary in the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration at the U.S. Department of State.

Schwartz has 25 years of senior public service experience at the Department of State, the National Security Council, the United Nations, and the U.S. Congress, as well as in the foundation and NGO communities. Schwartz served for many years as a visiting lecturer of public and international affairs at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School, and was the School’s first Practitioner in Residence.

The Humphrey School ranks among the top professional schools of public affairs at public universities in the country. The Institute is widely recognized for its role in examining public issues and shaping policy and planning at the local, state, national, and international levels, as well as for providing leadership and management expertise to public and nonprofit organizations. The Institute offers four graduate degrees, plus a Master in Development Practice degree in international development that will welcome its first cohort in August 2010.
