HUBERT H. HUMPHREY PUBLIC LEADERSHIP AWARDS

On June 3, 2008, the Humphrey Institute honored the recipients of the 2008 Hubert H. Humphrey Public Leadership Awards at the McNamara Alumni Center. This year’s recipients were Ward B. Chamberlin, Jr., public broadcasting pioneer and co-founder of AFS Intercultural Programs; Jane C. Freeman, Minnesota’s former First Lady, longtime political activist, and friend of the University of Minnesota; and the Honorable Al Quie, former governor of Minnesota. The awards ceremony also recognized Humphrey Institute alumnae Jennifer Godinez, associate director of Minnesota Minority Education Partnership, Inc., and Kiely Todd Roska, a dedicated advocate for advancing the leadership of young women in Minnesota. Read more about the 2008 recipients.

Proceeds from the event benefit a student scholarship initiative. For more information, contact Dawn Fish at dawnfish@umn.edu or (612) 625-9588.

More about the awards
The Hubert H. Humphrey Public Leadership Awards were inaugurated in 2003 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Institute taking the name of Minnesota's most famous public servant. The awards honor individuals, organizations, or projects that have made contributions to the common good through public leadership and service. Award winners are chosen through a nomination process each spring.

To support future leaders, the gala dinner also is a scholarship fundraiser. Proceeds from the event benefit a student scholarship initiative of the Humphrey Institute Advisory Council. Since its inception in 2003, the Public Leadership Awards dinner has raised more than $300,000 for student scholarships.
