| PNLC will recognize select cities, counties, and schools for innovation and efficiency on April 12 Innovative practices have shaped the state of Minnesota for decades. From creating
charter schools to reforming welfare programs, local pioneers have dared to
be creative when solving Minnesota¿s problems. To honor this tradition,
the Public and Nonprofit
Leadership Center (PNLC), in collaboration with the Association
of Minnesota Counties, the League of Minnesota
Cities, and the Minnesota
School Boards Association, will host the inaugural Local Government Innovation
Awards to recognize outstanding cities, counties, and schools that have used
inventive practices to improve local services. The awards ceremony will be held
from 2 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, in Cowles Auditorium.
We created the awards because Minnesota's local government employees
are under-recognized for the valuable and innovative contributions they make
to the quality of life in Minnesota, said Jay
Kiedrowski, a senior fellow with PNLC. At the same time, we believe
that if we better recognize and publicize the best new innovations, the ideas
will be adopted by other local government units.
The winners were chosen through a nominations process, and the awards were
divided into three categories: collaborations among public/nonprofit/private
organizations (P/NP); efficiency/cost effectiveness (E/E); and management process
improvement (MPI).
The awards ceremony is free and open to the public, but registration is requested.
To attend, please RSVP to Jeremy Gordon at (612) 624-7095 or pnlc@umn.edu.
