Jennifer Kuzma named interim director of the Center for Science, Technology, and Public Policy

Associate Professor Jennifer Kuzma has been named interim director of the Center for Science, Technology, and Public Policy (CSTPP) at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. She succeeds Professor Ken Keller, who recently began a two-year leave of absence to serve as director of The Bologna Center of The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies located in northern Italy.

"Jennifer Kuzma is an accomplished researcher and leader in science and technology policy," said Humphrey School Dean Brian Atwood. "She has been a valuable asset to the center, and I am pleased she is taking on this leadership role."

Kuzma joined the Humphrey School in February 2003. She previously was a program director and senior program officer at the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council (NRC). At the NRC, she directed programs and studies related to biotechnology and bioterrorism policy.

In 2003, she was nominated to serve on Governor Tim Pawlenty's Biosciences Advisory Council and also serves on the board of the BioBusiness Alliance of Minnesota. Her current research interests include agrifood nanotechnology risk analysis and regulatory policy. This includes developing methods for coordinated and comprehensive oversight of bio and nanotechnology.

Kuzma received a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1995. She subsequently served as a research fellow at the Rockefeller University in the Laboratory for Plant Molecular Biology.
