Governor Tim Pawlenty recently announced the appointment of Humphrey School
Senior Fellow Joe Nathan
to the board of directors of the Minnesota Early Learning Foundation. Nathan
is one of eleven appointees who will serve on the board.
Nathan currently serves as a senior fellow at the Humphrey School and as
the director of the Center
for School Change, which seeks to help transform public education and to
produce significant improvements in student achievement. Nathan has been a public
school teacher and administrator and coordinated the National Governors Association's
education reform project, Time for Results. He has expertise in parent and community
involvement, school choice, and charter schools and decades of experience in
early childhood education.
The Minnesota Early Learning Foundation (MELF) was established in 2005 with
a mission to identify cost-effective ways of ensuring that children under five
years from low-income or challenged families are ready for success in school.
MELFs goal is to support programs and initiatives that educate, inform,
and empower parents, particularly in Minnesotas fast-growing immigrant
communities and other under-served communities. MELF is governed by a board
of directors which consists of 23 members, including 11 members on the board.
