| City and county managers and officials will share innovations in public management April 27
"Promoting
Excellence in Public Management: Innovations in Cities and Counties"
is the theme of a half-day conference from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday,
April 27, in Cowles Auditorium. Panel discussions will focus on management excellence,
contracting for services, and collaboration as a means for delivering public
services. Sponsored by the Public
and Nonprofit Leadership Center (PNLC) and the Center
for the Study of Politics and Governance, the conference is free and open
to the public.
The panel discussions will include local government officials, city and county
managers, financial experts, and academic scholars. Registration begins at 7:30
a.m. and the conference begins at 8 a.m. Following opening remarks from Karen
Anderson, the former mayor of Minnetonka, the program will proceed as follows:
8:30-9:30 a.m. Management Excellence. Panelists will offer case studies from
their organizations showing best management practices.
9:30-10:30 a.m. Contracting Out and In. Local city officials will offer ideas
and suggestions on outsourcing and contracting for various services.
11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Collaborations for Delivering Public Services. From healthcare
to recreation services, panelists will share ideas for collaboration to achieve
the best results.
