Billie Jean Young to perform Fannie Lou Hamer: This Little Light at the Humphrey Institute February 12

Billie Jean Young, an Alabama-based actor and poet, will perform her one-person play, Fannie Lou Hamer: This Little Light, at the Humphrey Institute on Sunday afternoon, February 12. The event will be co-sponsored by the Cargill Company, the SuperValu Corporation, and the Humphrey Forum. The performance is part of a series of public programs based on the museum exhibit, Making Freedoms Mark: The Voting Rights Act of 1965, at the Humphrey Forum. A reception before the performance will begin at 2 p.m. The 60-minute play will begin at 3:30 p.m. The exhibit also will be available for viewing. The performance, reception, and exhibit are free and open to the public.

The show honors the career and life of Fannie Lou Hamer, a civil rights activist and sharecropper from Sunflower County, Mississippi. Young has shared the life story of Hamer for more than two decades. The play has been presented around the world from Harvard to Harlem to Beijing. For more information, click here.
