SPIRIT & FLESH AUTHOR TO GIVE AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE WORLD OF RELIGIOUS FUNDAMENTALISM

Author James Ault will give a public reading and take part in a panel discussion on his recent book, Spirit & Flesh: Life in a Fundamentalist Baptist Church, at 7 p.m. Monday, February 28, in the Humphrey Institute's Cowles Auditorium, 301 19th Ave. S., Minneapolis. Ault will also screen portions of his award-winning documentary "Born Again" featuring the same congregation. The event is free and open to the public.

For three years Ault observed the activities and the members of a Massachusetts fundamentalist church. He attended worship services, home Bible studies, youth events men's prayer breakfasts, and bitter conflicts which eventually led to a church split. Ault introduces the reader to fundamentalism while attempting to show both sides of the issue.

Following Ault's reading, a group of local religious leaders will take part in a panel discussion reacting to the issues of fundamentalism and Ault's experiences. Panelists include Rabbi Jeffrey Wildstein of Temple Israel; Don Portwood, co-pastor at Lyndale United Church of Christ; and Asad Zaman, an imam with the Muslim American Society of Minnesota.

Educated at Harvard College and Brandeis University, Ault has taught sociology and documentary filmmaking at various colleges across the country. For more information on James Ault and his work visit www.jamesault.com.
