| AUTHOR AND ECONOMIST RICHARD PARKER TO SPEAK AT THE HUMPHREY INSTITUTE MAY 10 Economist Richard Parker will sign copies of
his critically acclaimed book, John Kenneth Galbraith: His Life, His
Politics, His Economics (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, February 2005, $35.00),
at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, in Freeman Commons (HHH 205). As the first authorized
biography of one of the world's most famous economists, the book provides
a portrait of Galbraith and gives a unique look at public policy and economics.
The event is free and open to the public.
Galbraith is considered a famous economist for several reasons, most notably
due to his commentary on the intersection of politics and economics. As a bestselling
author, he continues to make grand statements about the dangers of deregulated
markets, corporate greed, and the costs of the military. He regularly challenges
"conventional wisdom" (a phrase he coined) and is known for his ability
to make economics relevant to current events.
Parker is an Oxford-trained economist and senior fellow of the Shorenstein
Center at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, where he also teaches on religion
and public policy. A cofounder of the magazine Mother Jones, he writes
extensively on economics and public policy. Parker lives in Cambridge, Mass.,
with his wife and children.
Parker's book on Galbraith is available at all major bookstores and online
