KENNETH H. KELLER TO SPEAK ON CLIMATE CHANGE AT CAFE SCIENTIFIQUE

Join Humphrey Institute Professor Kenneth H. Keller and University of Minnesota climatologist Mark Seeley at “Climate Change and Public Policy,” a special Cafe Scientifique, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis. The Café is a benefit for the Mississippi Chapter of the Nature Conservancy.

Keller, director of the Center for Science, Technology, and Public Policy at the Humphrey Institute, and Seeley, frequent contributor to Minnesota Public Radio's Morning Edition, will talk about the latest research into weather phenomena and tracking systems, and the impact of global climate change on people, the environment, and public policy.

Participants will have a chance to ask questions, as well as contribute to the Nature Conservancy’s latest efforts to save the fragile wetlands of the Gulf Coast. Coastal wetlands serve as a natural hurricane buffer, reducing storm surge and absorbing wind and wave energy. More than one million acres of these coastal wetlands--or 1,900 square miles--have been lost since 1930.

Café Scientifique is a monthly series produced by the University of Minnesota’s Bell Museum of Natural History. It brings expert-led discussions on provocative science topics out of the labs and into pubs, coffee shops, and restaurants throughout the state. For a list of scheduled cafés, click here. The Bell Museum is part of the University of Minnesota’s College of Natural Resources.
