ROUNDTABLE WILL LOOK AT THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF LIGHT RAIL AND OTHER TRANSIT CORRIDORS JUNE 15

With the Hiawatha line reaching its anniversary date and progress being made on other transit corridors in the Twin Cities, the State and Local Policy Program at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs and the Center for Transportation Studies (CTS) at the University of Minnesota, in cooperation with Hennepin County, invite you to attend a roundtable discussion on the economic and community impacts of transit corridors.

The roundtable will take place from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday June 15 at the Humphrey Center. Please RSVP to Stephanie Jackson at sjackson@cts.umn.edu or (612) 624-8398 by Monday, June 13. There is no fee to attend this event but an RSVP is requested.

The event will feature a keynote presentation by University of California, Berkeley Professor Robert Cervero, a widely known and published authority on transit evaluation and innovation, and a panel discussion of the different impacts that can be expected from light rail, commuter rail, and bus rapid transit. The panel will include University of Maryland Professor Gerrit Knaap, who has written on the economics and politics of land use planning and the efficacy of economic development instruments.

The roundtable is part of a greater initiative between Hennepin County and the University of Minnesota to create a more strategic collaboration between two large resources. This includes partnering on community-based research, sharing of academic and practitioner expertise, and providing students with in-the-field experience. The vision is to make the connection between Minnesota's premier research institution and largest county more strategic.
