| SYMPOSIUM ON "GOVERNING THE GLOBAL WORKPLACE" APRIL 15-16
The Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs will co-sponsor a symposium on "Governing
the Global Workplace" Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16, in Cowles Auditorium
at the Humphrey Institute. The conference will feature national experts on economics,
public policy, industrial relations, law, political science, and sociology who
will discuss the effects of globalization on workers, workplaces, companies,
unions and labor markets.
The symposium will feature keynote speakers and presentations by top international
scholars and practitioners. Keynote speakers are:
12:30 p.m. Friday, April 15 - Mitch Pearlstein, founder and president
emeritus of the Center of the American Experiment, who will address globalization
and the education of American workers.
7:15-8 p.m. Friday, April 15 - Ray Marshall, former Secretary of Labor
under President Jimmy Carter, who will look at protecting all workers in a global
economy.
12:15-1 p.m. Saturday, April 16 - Marley Weiss, former chairman of the
advisory committee to the U.S. National Administrative Office for the NAFTA
Labor Side Agreement under President Bill Clinton, who will talk about international
trade and labor law.
"Governing the Global Workplace" is a Humphrey Institute Signature
Study conducted in collaboration with the Carlson School of Management, the
Industrial Relations Center, the Office of the President and the Law School.
Humphrey Institute Signature Studies are interdisciplinary research projects
that focus on a significant policy issue. Led by Humphrey Institute faculty,
the research is conducted by experts across the University campus.
All conference panels are free and open to the public. There is a registration
fee of $35 for each lunch keynote and $50 for the dinner keynote. For complete
