HISTORY OF THE DISTINGUISHED CARLSON LECTURE SERIES

We live in a society filled with uncertainty and unpredictability. Many complex moral, political and economic issues confront us. These issues were fundamentally important to Hubert H. Humphrey, both the man and the public servant. He believed in an innovative, creative, and humane approach to public service. He was dedicated to strengthening the American democratic process through broad participation by informed citizens. Humphrey had a profound impact on many of the people whose lives he touched, particularly Curtis L. Carlson. Their friendship prompted Carlson to seek out a forum in which Humphrey's ideals would be kept in the forefront. Accordingly, the Distinguished Carlson Lecture Series has been created to honor Hubert H. Humphrey and to guarantee a continued awareness of the public issues that were important to him.
