Certificate: Policy Issues on Work and Pay, 2011
Location: Minneapolis, MN, USA
What do you do in your job?
I am
the program manager for the Global Management Trainee Program at
Anheuser-Busch. It is a high-potential rotational program—the end
goal is to build a pipeline of leaders for the future. This entails
aspects of training, leadership development, recruitment, selection, and
more. The role is cross-functional in nature, so I pull from
different skill-sets I learned at the University.
What motivated you to pursue the certificate in policy issues on work and pay? How do you think it will help your career?
I wanted to diversify my personal portfolio so that I could adapt to a number
of different roles in a number of different industries. Understanding
the foundational policies for work and pay helps me understand the
dynamics between business and government. Additionally, it gives me the
advantage of approaching work with a big-picture mindset.
What was the most valuable thing you learned in the certificate program?
It is important to understand the macro and micro effects of labor unions in both the private and public sectors.
How do you think you have benefited from completing the certificate program?
I am a more well-rounded employee. I can participate in discussions that
pull from both my human resources/industrial relations background, as well as the knowledge I gained through the certificate program.
Anything else you'd like to add about the program?
Professor Morrie Kleiner is dynamic, influential, and progressive. He not only is a great professor, but he also is an excellent leader for the certificate
program. The knowledge he taught me is invaluable.
