Buddy Program

The Buddy Program pairs a Humphrey Fellow with a Humphrey student to foster interaction and cross-cultural learning between the two ‘buddies’. Humphrey Fellows have much to offer our community: in depth experience in public policy and international human rights work, diverse cultural backgrounds, incisive contributions to classroom discussions, and the opportunity for American students to participate in cross-cultural learning.

Fellows + Buddies

Humphrey Fellows come to the University of Minnesota through scholarships granted by the U.S. State Department .These mid-career professionals from emerging democracies spend a year at the University of Minnesota in a non-degree program to develop their leadership potential and collaborate with their American counterparts.

Every year, Humphrey students are invited to apply for the Buddy Program. This program allows students to partner with a fellow in a low-commitment, year-long relationship. Students act as cultural and University resources to the best of their ability and include fellows in professional and social engagements whenever possible. Participating students also are invited to join in International Fellowship Programs events, including theater outings, policy-related conferences, and volunteer opportunities throughout the year.

To learn more about the Buddy Program, please call or e-mail us at 612-624-6582 / ifpadmin@umn.edu or drop by the IFP offices in Room 55 of the Humphrey School.
