About

Religion and humanitarianism have always been closely intertwined historically. Yet we know very little about how religion has shaped the meaning and practices of humanitarianism; why, whether, and how faith matters for trying to relieve the suffering of distant strangers; and whether and how different religions operate with similar or contrasting visions of humanitarianism.   Addressing these questions -- not only in the abstract but also in the context of humanitarian operations and everyday practices -- will help advance our knowledge of contemporary humanitarianism; comparative religious practices; and the world order that is being imagined, contested, and created.
