Twin Cities Community
- According to the Minnesota State Demographic Center,
people of color make up more than 22% of the population of the Twin
Cities metropolitan area. Since 2000, the population of people of color
in Minnesota has grown tremendously: the Black population grew 60%, the
American Indian/Alaskan Native population grew 11%, the Asian population
grew 51%, the Hawaiian/Pacific Islander population grew 9%, and the
Hispanic/Latino population grew 75%.
- The population of foreign-born people living in Minnesota is 7.4% (Minnesota Population Center), and The Twin Cities metropolitan region
is home to the nation’s largest population of Hmong and Somali refugees.
- The Twin Cities offers many amenities, including vibrant Hispanic, African, and
Asian shopping streets and exciting cultural venues, such as the
Penumbra Theatre Company—the premier African American theatre company in
the country— Mu Performing Arts, Ragamala Dance, and the Two Rivers
Gallery.
