Science, Technology and Environmental Policy Concentration

Predesigned Concentration Information

This predesigned concentration provides the student with the analytical framework for making decisions about public investments in science and technology and explores the relationship of science and technology to society and the policy process. Among the issues considered are the role of science and technology in the economy, food and health, security, education, energy, and the environment.

Required Courses (4.5 cr.):

PA 5711 — Science and Technology Policy (fall-3 cr.)

PA 5715 — Survey of Current Issues in STEP (spring-1.5 cr.)

Plus at least one of the following (4.5 cr.):

PA 5721 — Energy Policy (3 cr.)

PA 5723 —Water Policy (3 cr.)

PA 5731 —Emerging Technologies adn Society (3 cr.)

PA 5741 —Risk Analysis and Policy (3 cr.)

Allowed (and encouraged) MPP core course substitution:

With approval of faculty adviser, may substitute one of the following for required MPP core course PA 5022 — Economics for Policy and Planning Analysis II (offered spring)

PA 5722 — Environmental and Resource Economics Policy (fall-3 cr.)

ApEc 5721 — Economics of Science & Technology Policy (spring-3 cr.)

ESPM 5261 — Economics & Natural Resource Management (fall-4 cr.)
