| Young Women's Leadership Award |
The Center on Women and Public Policy congratulates the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota, winner of the 2007 Hubert H. Humphrey School’s Young Women’s Leadership Award.
“The Women’s Foundation is widely regarded as an organization that successfully embodies the goals of the young women’s movement for their tireless efforts to promote and advance women and girls across Minnesota. My personal experience reflects this characterization. I have been personally inspired, mentored and resourced as a young feminist in the committed work of the Women’s Foundation,” Kim Borton, 30-year old member of the Women’s Foundation Board of Trustees.
The Women’s Foundation cultivates women throughout the organization at all levels – from staff to board – while demonstrating a deep commitment to young women’s leadership through its mission statement and publications. The Women’s Foundation:
- builds economic literacy and power of girls through the GirlsBest program
- includes young women on the board of trustees – 4 of 20 trustees are under the age of 35
- leadership roles throughout the organization – 35% of the board, grant-making and other committees are women under 35
- hires young women – 57% of the Foundation’s staff are under 35

The Humphrey School’s Young Women’s Leadership Award recognizes organizations that have made a demonstrated commitment to advancing the leadership of young women ages 25-35 in Minnesota. A committee of young women selected the Women’s Foundation for this award. They all serve on non-profit boards as part of a Humphrey School course offered through the Center on Women and Public Policy.
