| March for Women's Lives - April 25, 2004
A record-breaking 1,150,000 pro-choice advocates
marched on Washington, D.C. to Voice Opposition to Government Attacks
on Womens Reproductive Rights. This march was documented as
the largest march on Washington in U.S. history. Seven leading national
womens rights groups worked side-by-side to organize the historical
event: The American
Civil Liberties Union, Black
Women's Health Imperative, Feminist
Majority, NARAL
Pro-Choice America, National
Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, National
Organization for Women and Planned
Parenthood Federation of America are the principal organizers
of the March for Women's Lives.
Many Humphrey students boarded buses and headed
to Washington for the massive march. Women and Public Policy student,
Rebecca Burch shared her experience at the March:
"On April 25th I participated in the March
for Women's Lives in Washington, DC. I added my voice to the many
women both past and present whom have proclaimed, "I am PRO-Choice,
I will fight for my reproductive freedom, I will fight for the many
women who cannot lend their own voices." I marched on Washington,
D.C. for myself and every woman, so that I can strengthen our freedom
of reproductive choice."

"We sent a message to Washington
today: there is a war on choice in this country, but we're going
to win this battle," said Gloria Feldt, president of Planned
Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA).
