Minnesota STEM Network

You are invited to attend the second Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) community of practice meeting to be held on Friday, April 16th from 8am to 2pm at the World Headquarters Auditorium, 710 Medtronic Parkway, Fridley, MN.  The STEM community of practice is developing into a Minnesota STEM Education Network aimed at addressing critical issues in improving STEM education in Minnesota, articulating and aligning strategies, and communicating effectively the value of STEM to stakeholders and external audiences.

Key stakeholder audiences include:  business leaders, higher education leaders, k-12 teachers and administrators, informal educators and leaders of non-profit STEM organizations, policymakers and legislators, and community leaders.

The purpose of the community meeting is to:

  • learn about strategies and lessons learned in statewide network development from our keynote speaker, Jan Morrison of the Teaching Institute for Excellence in STEM in Ohio
  • offer feedback on the early phase of development of the network, and articulate metrics about the network’s potential value
  • advance current initiatives, such as developing of a directory of organizations, program plans for STEM day, Thursday, August 26th, at the State Fair, and mini-grant opportunities offered by the National Girls Collaborative

A leadership team following the September 2009 community meeting has developed a case statement which will be posted on the Meeting Resources page in advance of the meeting. Descriptions and links to other states’ STEM networks are also available.
