“Food is the weak link” – Lester Brown In 2009, the bottom billion of the world’s people will go hungry. Despite advances in farming technology food production is not keeping pace with demand. While the world’s population continues to grow, more resources, including water and farmland, are diverted into meat production for wealthier nations and promotion of the biofuels industry. This is being coupled with an environment that will make it difficult to expand production further. We are seeing soil erosion, aquifer and river level depletion, rising sea levels and crop killing heat waves. Lester Brown will present his research and his new book “Plan B 4.0: Mobilizing to Save Civilization” in which he lays a road map to avoid environmental collapse. “Plan B” focuses on the switch to renewable energy and resources and highlights how the energy efficiency revolution has just begun. This event is free and open to the public. Presented by CSTPP and the Institute on the Environment.
